Heba Hesham reflects on her journey with opening Heya. She always felt that girls are raised to be dependent on others and are not aware of their own potential. She claimed that whenever a woman is assertive or stands by her opinion, she is labeled as ‘stubborn’. At her first year at AUC, she initiated Heya, an organization that focuses on spreading awareness on women’s issues. Heya entails several initiatives targeting different types of women’s issues such as: health, finance, education, and voting rights. She seeks to strengthen women and enable them to become aware of their potential. She claims that that no one can define a woman and that “Heya wi heya bas il ti2dar ti2ool lil nas wil 3alam kolu heya meen?” She and only she has the ability to tell people and the world who she really is.
